The six were chosen because each constrains what a state can do rather than describing what it says: growth sets fiscal room, military spend as a share of GDP sets sustained capacity, energy import dependency and trade openness set exposure to coercion, and population sets the denominator for all of it.

The panel is a row of stat tiles rather than a chart, because six single headline numbers are six numbers, not six charts.
